  1. Determine the runway, pattern direction/altitude; monitor CTAF; report ~10 miles out.
  2. Enter downwind on a 45° angle at pattern altitude, aimed abeam the runway midpoint.
  3. Fly downwind parallel to the runway ~½–1 mile out; complete before-landing checks and extend gear.
  4. Abeam the approach end, reduce power and begin the descent; ~45° past the runway end, turn base.
  5. On base, descend on a track perpendicular to the centerline, correcting for drift; check final before turning.
  6. Turn final and fly a stabilized descent to the touchdown point.
  7. Go around any time the approach is unsafe or the runway isn't clearly yours.
