Definition
A visual depth cue in which distant objects appear paler, hazier, and bluer than near objects because of the scattering and absorption of light by the atmosphere between the observer and the object. Pilots use this cue, along with relative size and motion parallax, to judge distance to terrain, traffic, and other features in flight.
Plain English
Things that are far away look fuzzier, lighter in colour, and slightly blue compared to things that are close. Your eyes use this difference to estimate how far away something is.

Aerial perspective does not mean simply “a view from an airplane.” Here it means a distance cue caused by the air between you and what you are looking at.
