A flight that goes from one airport to a different airport some distance away, instead of just staying near the home field to practice.

Full Definition

Flights conducted between two different points, typically requiring navigation by reference to charts, ground features, navigation aids, or electronic systems rather than remaining in the local airport traffic pattern or practice area. Under FAA regulations (14 CFR 61.1), a cross-country flight generally involves a landing at a point other than the point of departure, and for most and that point must be more than a specified straight-line distance from the original departure (commonly 50 for purposes).
