A published instrument flight procedure that provides a safe, obstacle-free path from the runway end to the en route structure after takeoff. Departure Procedures are issued by the FAA in two forms: Obstacle Departure Procedures (ODPs), which provide obstacle clearance and may be flown without unless otherwise required, and (SIDs), which are -issued that simplify and traffic flow.
