Definition
A spline whose teeth (or grooves) are cut in a spiral pattern around a shaft or mating bore, rather than running straight along the axis. As the two splined parts engage or disengage axially, the spiral teeth force one part to rotate relative to the other, converting straight-line motion into rotary motion (or vice versa).
