Definition
A series of experimental high-output liquid-cooled aircraft piston engines developed in the United States from the 1930s into the 1940s under a military program aimed at producing one horsepower per cubic inch of displacement. The most notable examples were the Continental IV-1430 and the Lycoming XH-2470. The program ultimately did not produce a service engine, as turbojet development overtook it.
