Definition
A set of related screens within a panel-mount GPS navigator that displays the airports closest to the aircraft's present position, listed in order of distance, along with key information about each one such as bearing, distance, runway length, and available frequencies. The pilot can scroll through the list and select an airport to view further details or to load it as a direct-to destination.
Plain English
A section of the GPS that quickly shows you which airports are nearest to where you are right now, so you can pick one if you need to land soon.
Context Anchor
You use it when working with the GPS nearest-airport function, especially if you need to choose a nearby airport quickly.
Why Pilots Care
Gives the pilot an immediate list of usable airports for rapid diversion decisions without manual searching.
Intuition Check
Do not assume “nearest” means “best” or “safe to land at.” It only means the GPS is showing airports close to your present position; the pilot still must check runway, weather, fuel, and aircraft needs.
Example Sentence 1
When the oil pressure gauge began to drop, the pilot pulled up the Nearest Airport Page Group and selected the closest field with a paved runway.
Example Sentence 2
While on approach, she scrolled through the Nearest Airport Page Group to confirm alternate airports within 20 miles.
