A type of developer used in liquid-penetrant inspection that consists of a fine, white, absorbent powder suspended in a volatile, non-water-based solvent. After the penetrant has been applied and the excess removed, the nonaqueous developer is sprayed onto the part. The solvent evaporates quickly, leaving a thin powder coating that draws penetrant out of any surface cracks or flaws, making them visible as colored or fluorescent indications.
