Definition
In a reciprocating aircraft engine, the power cylinder is the chamber in which the fuel-air mixture is compressed by the piston, ignited, and burned to produce the expanding gases that drive the piston down and turn the crankshaft. Each cylinder houses a piston, valves, and spark plugs, and is where the actual conversion of fuel energy into mechanical motion takes place.
