A controlled aging process applied to certain alloys (commonly aluminum alloys) in which the metal is held at a moderate elevated temperature for a set period after solution heat treatment, causing fine particles of a second phase to precipitate within the metal's structure. This precipitation increases the alloy's hardness and strength to its final specified values.
