Definition
The three imaginary straight lines that pass through an aircraft's center of gravity, around which the aircraft rotates in flight. The longitudinal axis runs nose to tail (rotation around it is called roll), the lateral axis runs wingtip to wingtip (rotation around it is called pitch), and the vertical axis runs straight up and down through the center of gravity (rotation around it is called yaw).
