Derivation
Certificated comes from the Latin certificare, meaning to make certain or to attest. A CFI is someone the FAA has formally attested as qualified to instruct. Why Pilots Care
Only a current CFI can provide the training and endorsements required for a student to solo, take checkrides, and add ratings. Without a CFI signature in the right places, training does not count toward a certificate.
