Definition
The system that launches and opens a ballistic parachute when activated by the pilot. It typically uses a small solid-fuel rocket to pull the parachute out of its housing and into the airstream fast enough to inflate the canopy, even at low altitudes or low airspeeds where a normal parachute would not have time to open.
