Definition
Runway edge lights designed to operate at high brightness levels, used to define the lateral limits of a runway during night operations and in low-visibility conditions. They are adjustable in intensity by air traffic control or, at non-towered fields, by the pilot using the aircraft radio, and they remain visible at long range and through reduced visibility such as rain, haze, or light fog.
