Definition
An early stage of oxygen deficiency in the body's tissues, typically experienced at moderate altitudes (roughly 5,000 to 10,000 feet without supplemental oxygen), in which the pilot's mental and physical performance begins to degrade subtly without obvious distress. Symptoms can include slight drowsiness, slowed thinking, reduced night vision, mild euphoria, and impaired judgment, often without the pilot recognising anything is wrong.

Derivation
