Definition
To taxi a fixed-wing aircraft at less than normal taxi speed, typically used when the pilot intends to stop short of the runway or at a specific point during taxi.
Plain English
Moving the aircraft on the ground noticeably slower than usual, often because the pilot is preparing to stop somewhere specific along the way.
Context Anchor
Used in seaplane and floatplane water operations, especially near docks, ramps, shorelines, or other traffic on the water.
Why Pilots Care
Reduces the chance of runway incursions, collisions with other aircraft, and loss of control during surface operations.
Intuition Check
Slow Taxi does not simply mean any airplane taxiing slowly on pavement. In this FAA glossary use, it specifically means a floatplane moving on water at low power or low engine speed.
Example Sentence 1
Tower instructed the Cessna to slow taxi to the run-up area while traffic cleared the taxiway ahead.
Example Sentence 2
The controller issued a slow taxi instruction to keep us clear of the aircraft crossing ahead on the taxiway.
