Definition
An unstable condition during takeoff or landing in a nosewheel airplane in which most of the airplane's weight is carried on the nosewheel rather than the main wheels, with the main wheels light or off the runway. In this state the nosewheel is steering and supporting the airplane, directional control becomes erratic, and the airplane is prone to swerving, side-skipping, or losing the runway centerline.
Plain English
When the nose of the airplane is pressed down so hard during the takeoff or landing roll that the front wheel is doing most of the work and the main wheels are barely touching. The airplane becomes hard to steer and wants to wander off course.

Derivation
Named after a wheelbarrow, which balances on a single front wheel while the operator lifts the back. An airplane in this state is doing the same thing — riding on its nose with the tail-end (the mains) light.

Analogy
Like pushing down hard on a wheelbarrow handles so the rear legs lift and the whole load rides only on the front wheel, making it twitchy and hard to steer.

Picture the airplane rolling fast with the front wheel pressed down and the rear wheels light; small steering changes can become unstable very quickly.
Intuition Check
Wheel barrowing does not mean the airplane is simply rolling on its wheels. It means the airplane is carrying too much weight on the nosewheel, making normal control weaker and less stable.
