Definition
An electronic screen in a glass cockpit that shows the status and operating values of the aircraft's engine and supporting systems, such as fuel quantity, oil pressure and temperature, electrical loads, and engine RPM or power settings. It replaces the row of individual round-dial engine and system gauges found in older aircraft.
Plain English
It is the screen in a modern cockpit that tells the pilot how the engine and the aircraft's other systems are doing, all in one place.
Context Anchor
Seen in aircraft with electronic cockpit displays, especially when checking engine, fuel, electrical, or other system information during flight.
Why Pilots Care
Enables rapid assessment of system status to maintain situational awareness and respond to issues promptly.
Intuition Check
Do not read “display” here as just any screen in the cockpit. An aircraft systems display specifically shows the condition of the airplane’s onboard systems, not the flight path or outside view.
Example Sentence 1
During cruise, the pilot scanned the aircraft systems display and noticed the oil temperature was higher than normal.
Example Sentence 2
During cruise, the aircraft systems display alerted the crew to a low fuel pressure reading.
