Definition
A radio signal transmitted from the approach end of a runway that provides vertical guidance along a precise descent path, typically 3 degrees, to the touchdown zone. The signal is received and displayed in the cockpit, allowing the pilot to fly an accurate descent angle independent of visual references outside the aircraft.
